Venture Candy was devised to meet the challenge of diversifying Metro UK’s revenue streams.
Venture Candy utilizes Metro's inventory in a way that can generate immediate revenue from traditional sources (such as sponsorship), as well as providing a platform to diversify its revenue beyond publishing by taking stakes in relevant young businesses with high growth potential.
Venture Candy provides budding ventures with the 'candy' (exposure, profile and support) they need to transform themselves into talked-about brands including advertising in Metro and marketing and branding as well as mentorship, club membership, IT and PA support.
2,000 business applied to Venture Candy in 2010 and represented an array of exciting and dynamic start-ups within the UK, in the categories of Design & Technology, Food & Drink, Green, Fashion & Interiors and Health & Beauty.
The winners were shortlisted by a panel of successful entrepreneurs and ultimately voted for amongst Metro's 3.5 million daily readership who were invited to choose their favourite businesses.
